My passion is creating lifelong learners! The best way to do this is by creating bookworms. If I can ignite the fire for reading in my students, I feel successful.
I graduated from NCSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications specializing in communication disorders. My journey then took me to UNCG where I graduated with a Masters in Elementary Education. In 2004, I received my National Board Certification. I recently returned to school to add an Administration Certification to my license. I am satisfied with my schooling for now. I someday dream of pursuing a PH.D in Curriculum and Instruction.
I enjoy learning with others through Professional Learning Communities where we read and discuss professional literature. I always have a list of books I am ready to dive into independently or with colleagues. My teaching continues to be transformed daily as I continue my learning.
I have taught in Wayne County Public Schools for 14 years. Through these years, I have had a variety of experiences. I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second and Third Grades. I had the opportunity of being and Instructional Consultation Facilitator at my school for 2 and ½ years. My variety of positions has truly shaped me into a reflective educator. I am presently teaching first grade. This is my 7th year teaching first grade. It has to be my favorite. The transformation from nonreaders to readers is incredibly amazing to watch.
I am married to my best friend and best supporter, John. We have 2 creative boys, Avery age 10 and Worth age 7. Our home is filled with books, animals and critters. I refer to my home as BEST ZOO. We presently have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 hamster and 1 water dragon. Believe it or not our zoo is low in animals at this time. Thankfully for me!!
My boys love science: critters and nature. I am quickly growing to love critters too. In the spring and summer, we always have new critters to explore and learn about. In our busy, crazy life I stop and treasure this journey. I can’t imagine my life any other way. I am blessed in so many ways. Thanks for taking the time to learn about me. I would love to learn about you!
